    The true story of a twenty-year-long correspondence between Miss Helene Hanff, an American writer living in New York and Frank Doel, the Manager of Messrs Marks and Co. 84 Charing Cross Road, London, sellers of rare second-hand books.

    The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street recounts Helene 's first visit to England, which took place after the publication of 84 Charing Cross Road in 1971. Frank died in 1968.






  • ROSEMARY LEACH won a Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Helene Hanff in the West End stage version of 84 Charing Cross Road. More recently she starred in Peter Hall's West End production of Separate Tables and in UUC television 's version of The Buccaneers.

    FRANK FINLAY has numerous stage and screen credits to his name and has won BAFTA's Best Actor Awards in the title role of The Death Of Adolf Hitler for LWT and for his portrayal of Sancho Panza in Don Quixote. He played Frank Doel in BBC television's version of 84 Charing Cross Road.

    ELIZABETH MANSFIELD is perhaps best known for her work on Radio, including highly acclaimed performances in Marie: The Story of Marie Llyod and Guppies for Tea (Woman's Hour). Recent stage work includes The Royal National Theatre's production of Women of Troy.
